A Project of Strike Debt (PM Press, 2014, 256 pp.)
You can read this book for free at strikedebt.org/drom, but it’s a handy little resource to keep around. The book has a chapter on tax debt, with many references to NWTRCC resources, but it covers dealing with all kinds of financial issues “for the 99%” from understanding credit ratings, to credit card debt, student debt, and on to dealing with debt collectors. There are chapters on government debt, something called “climate debt”, and then, maybe most importantly, strategies for survival and prospects for change.
Edited by David M. Gross (Picket Line Press, 2008, 250 pp.)
Henry David Thoreau’s famous 1849 essay about being jailed for refusing to pay a poll tax that supported slavery and the Mexican-American War. From the A.J. Muste Memorial Institute Essay Series.
By David Hartsough (PM Press, 2014, 272 pp.)
Beginning with a racist’s shaking knife at his own shaking chest during a lunch counter sit-in, Hartsough takes us from the bullies and rocky snowballs of one influential walk home from school in his childhood Iowa … through his decades of energized, sustained, nonviolent direct action on frontlines all around the world, eyes always on the prize, or else searching for it through teargas. David Hartsough is a Quaker and a War Tax Resister who has for decades been redirecting a large portion of his “tax obligations,” believing that if war is abolished, “humanity can not only survive and better address the climate crisis and other dangers, but will be able to create a better life for everyone….” (Read the full review)

Edited by David Gross (Picket Line Press, 2011, 450 pp.)
The second edition of this book is available from Picket Line Press, but we have one copy left of the less-comprehensive-but-still-substantial collection of writings and essays. These writings collected together highlight the evolution of thought among Quakers about war tax resistance, which is still enlightening to today’s resisters. Among the many writers are William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, John Woolman, and Stephen B. Weeks, along with statements and concerns from a variety of Friends Meetings over the decades.
Edited by David R. Bassett, Steve Ratzlaff, and Tim Godshall (2009)
Writings by Marian from over 20 years’ worth of inspiring and informative newsletter columns for the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund. Book includes several essays by colleagues on the rationale for, history of, and challenges facing the movement for legislation covering conscientious objection to military taxation.
