I wish I were brave enough to stop paying taxes but that would make my own family ultimately homeless as well. I’ve been fighting this battle for 60+ years and it only seems to be getting worse. I’m absolutely exhausted and with the increasing power of the far right I’m scared shitless. Maybe immigration is the only solution.

I was also struck by the differences in tax resistance between the US and the UK and Spain. I think it’s a matter of perspective. Our focus on war here is so strong because that’s where most of our tax money goes. It’s all our government seems to care about. In those countries, taxpayers actually get something for their money. War still exists, of course, and governments still spend too much on it, but if ours spent more on health care and less on war, as in almost entirely everywhere else in the world, we might have a different perspective.
